Aşan Akın was born in Istanbul in 1978. He graduated from the Sculpture Department of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. His practice spans both classical sculpture and computer-assisted design. For many years, he produced figurative works in public spaces while simultaneously pursuing digital explorations of sculpture’s possibilities. He continues his work at his studio in Kadıköy, Istanbul.
Akın’s practice centers on three-dimensional thinking. While engaging with the plastic values of classical figurative sculpture, he also explores structures formed through mathematical functions and algorithms. Open to modern art movements and new ideas, he seeks to liberate the mind through art, improvising with form. His works question the relationship between reality and virtuality, reflecting on how computers transform our lives. By employing 3D modeling tools, he expands the boundaries of sculpture. Philosophy and thought are integral to his creative process, which he views as a continuous act of hybrid experimentation.
