Stiliana Alexieva

Stiliana Alexieva is a British-Bulgarian artist who was tutored from an early age by her father Jordan Alexiev, an accomplished figurative artist and sculptor. Her work is exhibited at various art fairs and galleries in London and Hong Kong. Her artworks are being selected for private exhibitions at the Royal Academy of Arts Exhibition Hall since 2013.

Stiliana says of her work: “My Seascape series are inspired by the many changeable moods of the British and Scottish weather. It stirs my imagination with its drama, peace and serenity. I paint on raw sheets of aluminium. Through self-developed artistic techniques I incorporate the paint with the reflective surface. The different lights of the day are performed onto the metal, creating a play of foreground and background effects, and ever-changing scenery.”

ARTIST STATEMENT

From an early age, I was tutored by my father Jordan Alexiev, the renowned Bulgarian artist and sculptor. My training includes also printmaking and computer design. Since moving to UK I have made a living from my art. The experience of living through the collapse of communism left me free of convention. I don’t allow myself to be restricted to any particular media. I am an artist who relishes experimentation and evolution. My work is about the sensual, tactile empathy I have with my materials. I create depth and texture using all manner of available modern materials - acrylics, wax, oxidants, combined with the glistening, translucent wetness of glaze and resin.
