Erdinç Babat’s Exhibition “Being and Nothingness” Opens at Artopol Gallery

Erdinç Babat’s exhibition “Being and Nothingness,” in collaboration with Artopol Gallery, is now on view at Pixi Istanbul Etiler. The exhibition explores fundamental questions about human existence, combining geometric forms with figurative expression. Drawing inspiration from philosophers such as Heidegger, Sartre, and Farabi, it navigates the delicate boundary between self-recognition and the sensation of nothingness.

Heidegger’s concept of “Dasein” (being-there) and Sartre’s understanding of existence shaped by consciousness prompt reflections on time, being, and nothingness in Babat’s works. Farabi’s pursuit of reason, virtue, and the transcendence of human limits manifests in figures constrained within geometric structures, yet pushing beyond those boundaries.

For Babat, geometry is not merely an aesthetic choice but a means of thinking—a language of existence. The interaction between the human body and these forms invites viewers to reflect on diverse realms, from urban architecture to nature’s order, and from complex human relationships to processes of inner transformation.

With this exhibition, Erdinç Babat calls the audience to confront both existence and the awareness of nothingness—perhaps suggesting that these concepts are not separate, but rather interwoven into a singular whole.
