5+1 WHY ARTOPOL?: HİLAL SUNN ERDOĞAN

1) Why art?

I am generally someone who internalizes what I experience. Also, being trapped within societal molds can make life really exhausting. That’s why art has become an inner necessity for me. It is an expression of my soul and a place where I can be as free as possible.

2) How would you describe your art in five words?

Simple, complex, free, emotional, unpredictable.

3) If your works could speak, what would they say to the viewer?

Each piece would tell a different story that can be found deep in all of our hearts. Like the thoughts and emotions in our inner world, they remind us that even within complexity we can find meaning and beauty. In fact, every line comes together as a thought or memory, shaping who we are.

4) Do you have a memorable moment in your art journey?

About eight years ago, one of my exhibitions was postponed due to renovations at the venue. In my disappointment at the time, I threw all ten completed works into the trash. I wouldn’t do that now. :)

5) Do you have any peculiar obsessions, and do they reflect in your art?

Not exactly obsessions, but my works—which viewers often call “crazy pieces”—require great patience, concentration, and calmness, contrary to my existing hyperactivity. Creating them is completely therapeutic for me. I guess the simplicity and chaos we see result entirely from this contrast.

+1 Why Artopol?

What first caught my attention about Artopol is that it hosts innovative and original artworks. The gallery provides a sincere and inviting atmosphere for both artists and visitors, along with expert guidance, which played a major role in my choice. I really love their energy.
