“PHOENIX BY BEGÜM EYİLİK”

Artopol Art Gallery will present Begüm Eyilik’s first solo exhibition, titled Phoenix, between November 24 – December 18, 2022. Curated by Dilara Orhan, the exhibition highlights the Eye and Galaxy series, as well as works from her Geode series, created with semi-precious stones.

Phoenix, also known as Anka, is a legendary, immortal bird found in many traditions. It represents the soul’s ascension, the power of rebirth during life, purity, virtue, loyalty, grace, and righteousness. The works in the Eye series embody these values, portraying a sense of serene insight and touching upon each of these concepts.

In mythology, it is said that to reach Mount Qaf, one must pass through the “Seven Bottomless Valleys”: Love, Unity, Exception, Desire, Knowledge, Nothingness, and Wonder. While other birds fail to cross them due to worldly temptations, only the Phoenix—through patience and perseverance—completes the journey. Eyilik visualizes these seven valleys through her Galaxy series, each representing a distinct dimension.

Begüm Eyilik began her artistic journey during the pandemic, studying under artist Nur Aydın. She combines various techniques with resin and epoxy, embracing collage as her core discipline.

This year, she was selected by the committee of the 4th London Contemporary and presented her work to an international audience for the first time. Her works will also be exhibited at Palazzo Bembo in Venice as part of the Venice Art Fair between December 2–23, 2022.

You can visit Begüm Eyilik’s solo exhibition “Phoenix” between November 24 – December 18, from 10:00 to 22:00, at Artopol Gift Gallery, located in 42 Maslak.
