Artist Day by Artopol Art Gallery: Zeynep Akgün & Sayat Uşaklıgil

As Artopol Art Gallery, we will organize an Artist Day event series for our in-house artists. In the first edition of this series, we will host the duo Zeynep Akgün and Sayat Uşaklıgil.
Zeynep Akgün, with her “Ruhun Kabuğu” (Shell of the Soul) series, focuses on the human body and soul while also critiquing its place in society.
The known/visible body and the unknown/invisible soul are represented in Akgün’s works through real bodies and surreal spaces.
The concept of the shell here is essentially a metaphor for protecting the soul, similar to clothing that covers our bodies.
Sayat Uşaklıgil creates spatial and temporal contrasts with an illustrative style.
His signature nostalgic female figures appear as if they have traveled through time, showing up in the most innocent forms, far from the visual perception of today’s world, on a playful adventure.
